Hi, I’m Helena Rodriguez.

A Chicago-based writer and curator working at the intersection of contemporary art, politics, and cultural production. My practice brings together creative writing and collaborative exhibition-making, with a focus on thoughtful interpretation and interdisciplinary research.

My path into the arts emerged from creative writing, before expanding into art history and curatorial practice. Beginning at Flagler College and the Crisp-Ellert Art Museum (CEAM), I have worked across exhibition-making, museum programming, writing, and arts administration, including serving as an Interim Director of CEAM.

These experiences shaped my approach to the arts, which sees writing and curating as complementary practices: ways of interpreting art, engaging audiences, and creating connections between artists, history, and communities.

Engaging with art has enriched my writing, just as writing has deepened my understanding of art.

I am currently pursuing a dual degree in Modern and Contemporary Art History and Arts Administration and Policy at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My scholarly interests center on the politics of representation, visual culture, and decolonial methodologies, with particular attention to how museums and cultural institutions respond to shifting political and cultural landscapes.

I am interested in collaborating with artists and institutions whose work engages contemporary social issues, experimental curatorial approaches, and interdisciplinary research. Whether developing exhibitions, writing, or public programming, I hope to create thoughtful conversations between artists, institutions, and communities.
